Towpath Series
The Towpath Series is a set of evening road and trail events comprising three 10K races followed by a 5K finale. The series accepts on-the-night entries and also requires entrants who registered in advance to collect their race number at the race headquarters before the race. Runners who enter all races should keep the same race number for each event.
Race headquarters is based at Ashton Park School sports centre (BS3 2JL), where parking, changing and toilet facilities are available. There is a short walk of about half a mile from the sports centre to the start area.
The route is a straightforward out and back along the towpath and is waymarked by marshals. The surface is a mixture of tarmac and gravel footpaths with some roots and rocks; the course is gently undulating and narrow in places. Headphones are not permitted so marshals and announcements can be heard.
The event includes a team competition called the Mob Match. Clubs, companies and teams may enter as many members as they wish; the first 15 runners to finish for each team count towards the team score, and a trophy is awarded to the club whose counters finish highest.
Prizes are announced after each race and at the end of the series. Awards include 1st to 3rd woman and man, and male and female veteran categories for 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80. Every finisher receives a free raffle ticket for spot prizes; prize winners must be present in person to collect prizes or they will be redrawn.
