The Drop - Bath
The Drop is a navigation challenge held at The Huntsman, Bath, 1 Terrace Walk, North Parade, Bath, Somerset, BA1 1LJ. Participants are transported blindfolded to an undisclosed drop location and must find their own way back to the event centre without external navigation aids.
Distances offered:
- 15 miles as the crow flies
- 10 miles as the crow flies
- 6 miles as the crow flies, open only to non-locals
At registration participants hand over all electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids and receive a race number plus a sealed emergency bag to carry for the duration. Blindfolds may be replaced with blackout safety goggles if required. When blindfolds are removed the participant’s time starts and they must proceed on foot only; no transport or shortcuts are permitted.
Rules include no GPS usage unless the device is sealed inside the emergency bag, no unauthorised maps, and disqualification for breaking the emergency bag seal. Entries for the 6 mile option may be checked to confirm non-local status.
An optional live GPS tracking service is available for safety. Trackers are accurate within about 5 metres, must be returned at the end of the event, and incur a £175 replacement fee if not returned.
