The Drop - Bath
The Drop is a stripped-back navigation challenge in which participants are taken to an unknown location and must find their own way back to the event centre at Lulu Caffe, 1 Hot Bath St, Bath. There are no marked routes, no directions, and no reassurance once participants leave the deployment vehicle.
Participants choose between the following drop distances measured as the crow flies:
- 15 miles original version with longer distance and sustained decision-making
- 10 miles shorter version with the same rules and restrictions
- 6 miles strictly for non-locals only to preserve fairness
At registration participants hand over all electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids. In return they receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag that must be carried for the duration of the event. Deployment is by bus while blindfolded or using approved alternatives. When blindfolds are removed the clock starts and every navigation decision is the participant's responsibility.
Key rules include no GPS unless devices are sealed inside the emergency bag, no unauthorised maps, travel on foot only, and disqualification for breaking the emergency bag seal. Live GPS tracking is available as an optional paid feature with trackers accurate to about 5 metres; trackers must be returned or a £175 replacement fee applies.
