19th Tour des Marches Challenge Walk
The Tour des Marches Challenge Walk is an annual event organized by the LDWA Marches Group. Based at Wistanstow Village Hall, the course travels through the South West Shropshire countryside. Participants move through the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, visiting locations such as Clun and Bishop's Castle before returning to the start point.
The event offers three distinct distances:
- 26 miles
- 18 miles (Wistanstow to Bishop's Castle)
- 12 miles (Wistanstow to Clun)
Participants follow an undulating route and have access to full support and transport back to the start if finishing at the 12 mile or 18 mile marks. Runners are welcome to participate alongside walkers. The entry fee includes a snack breakfast and refreshments at all checkpoints. A hot meal is provided at the finish, with both vegetarian and vegan options available.
Registration is required in advance as there are no entries accepted on the day of the event. The maximum number of participants is limited to 160. Participants receive a detailed route description and maps, and finishers are awarded a certificate. The event has a minimum age requirement of 14, and those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please note that no dogs are permitted due to the presence of livestock along the route.
