19th Tour des Marches Challenge Walk
The Tour des Marches Challenge Walk is an annual event organized by the LDWA Marches Group. Based at Wistanstow Village Hall, the routes traverse an undulating landscape through South West Shropshire. Participants travel through the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, visiting locations such as Clun and Bishop's Castle.
The event offers three distinct distance options:
- 26 miles
- 18 miles (Wistanstow to Bishop's Castle)
- 12 miles (Wistanstow to Clun)
Participants follow a route that heads west to Clun, turns north toward Bishop's Castle, and finally returns east to Wistanstow. Both walkers and runners are permitted to participate. The event has a registration limit of 160 participants, and entries must be made in advance as there are no registrations available on the day. Participants must be at least 14 years old, and those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The entry fee includes a snack breakfast before the start and a hot meal at the finish, with vegetarian and vegan options provided. Snacks and drinks are available at all checkpoints, though participants must bring their own mug. Support and transport are provided for those completing the 12 mile and 18 mile distances, as well as for retirees. Maps, detailed route descriptions, and certificates are provided to all participants. Due to the presence of livestock, dogs are not permitted.
