About the race
The Tour de Gourd is an autumn run and walk through downtown Damariscotta and Newcastle that passes Pumpkinfest displays before looping through leafy back streets. The event returns for its second year and features a downhill final kilometer that leads to Elm Street Plaza and the winning giant pumpkin.
The initial segment goes through downtown with a police road closure in place. The remainder follows quiet back streets that remain open to traffic; participants may encounter vehicles, including emergency vehicles. The finish is in downtown Damariscotta about 0.25 miles from the start.
Routes and timing differ by event: the run is chip timed and then doubles back to retrace part of the course, while the walk continues straight to the finish and is untimed. Estimated walking time for the shorter route is around 40 minutes.
