About the race
The Tour de Gourd is an autumnal run and walk in Midcoast Maine that returns for a second year and follows routes through downtown Damariscotta and Newcastle to view Pumpkinfest displays before looping through leafy back streets. The final kilometer descends toward Elm Street Plaza and the winning giant pumpkin; the finish is in downtown Damariscotta about 0.25 miles from the start.
The run and walk use similar paths. The walk continues straight to the finish while the run doubles back to retrace part of the route. The run is chip timed. The walk is untimed and the route is described as just less than two miles, which typically takes around 40 minutes.
The opening segment of both routes goes through downtown with a police road closure in place. The remainder follows quiet back streets that remain open to traffic; participants should keep eyes and ears open for traffic, particularly emergency vehicles.
