Event Overview
Tough Topanga is a trail running event held at Topanga State Park's Trippet Ranch area in Topanga, California. It is the first race in the Bulldog Challenge Series.
Distances
The event offers several distances:
- 15k Trail
- 10k Trail
- Hiker’s Delight (a non-timed event with an early start)
- Jr (a 1-kilometer course for participants under 13 years old)
Course Details
The courses take place in the Santa Monica Mountains. Routes are described as rugged and steep, featuring oak forests, chaparral, and views. The 15k course includes a section called Garapito Singletrack. The 10k is referred to as "the Classic." Both the 10k and 15k courses feature a timed "Downhill Mile" segment in the final section.
Prizes and Awards
The event features cash prizes. There is a $2,500 total prize purse, with separate purses for the 10k and 15k distances. Additional cash bonuses are awarded for the fastest "Downhill Mile" splits. Awards are also given for overall winners, age groups, and a "Local Legend" category for the fastest participants from Topanga.
Participant Inclusions
Registration includes a finisher medal, a race shirt, and access to a finish line festival. The festival features a beer garden with two complimentary beers for participants 21 and over, breakfast tacos with plant-based options, coffee, and other refreshments. The event provides professional timing, aid stations, medical support, and next-day race photography.
Series Information
The event is part of the Bulldog Challenge Series, which includes Tough Mugu and the Bulldog Ultra. Completing specific distances across the series can earn a limited edition jacket.
