Two Turtle Doves - Totley AC
Two Turtle Doves is a fell race held on Boxing Day, starting from the Totley AC pavilion at The Cricket Inn, Lane Head Road, S17. Entry costs £8 and all proceeds go to S6 foodbank and Edale Mountain Rescue. Pre-entry via The Entry Point is possible and entries are accepted on the day. The race is open to runners aged 18 and over.
The course begins with a lap of the cricket pitch and continues along Strawberry Lee Lane. Runners face a short steep climb, a descent to a river crossing at stepping stones, then a longer climb to the Devil’s Elbow and an uphill drag to the top tip of Blacka Moor Woods. The route leaves the woodland onto a bridleway down into a sheep field, followed by a grassy descent, a final possibly muddy climb and about a kilometre of flat on Totley Moor before descending toward the finish. The finish now includes a descent of Strawberry Lee Lane and a customary loop of the field.
The route is 7.8 km with 270 metres of ascent and is graded BS category. It follows public rights of way and is partially marked; flags must be followed. The race is held under FRA rules. Competitors must carry full FRA best practice kit as specified by the organiser; mandatory kit inspections may be performed and failure to comply can lead to disqualification and reporting to the FRA.
Facilities at the venue include toilets, showers, a pub and limited parking. Prizegiving with certificates is held outside the pavilion for top finishers and specified age categories. Runners must keep race numbers visible, may be recorded at checkpoints, must not take dogs on the course and must inform Race Control if retiring.
