Course, entry, and awards
The course runs on paved roads through the Cactus Forest at the base of the Rincon Mountains. The 8-mile is a clockwise loop with rolling hills and views of the Rincon Mountains, the Catalina Mountains, and the Tucson basin. The 5k is an out-and-back that covers the last portion of the 8-mile course. The event is one of three races in the United States held on the grounds of a National Park.
Race entry includes a day pass into Saguaro National Park. The National Park Service requires a $15 event fee per participant; the organizer pays part of that cost and participants may save $5 by submitting an NPS permit number. Awards include prize money for course records, age-group and overall awards. The first 750 registrants are guaranteed a tech race shirt; an additional 200 medals are available as an add-on for $15. Shirts and medals are distributed at packet pickup only. Beneficiaries include the National Park Service, Friends of Saguaro, and the Southern Arizona Roadrunners.
