Thurmond Triathlon, Thurmond WV
The Thurmond Triathlon is a three‑part event in the Town of Thurmond at 174 Main Street. It is presented by Active Southern West Virginia and is scheduled for June 28 in Thurmond, West Virginia.
All participants complete each section in sequence. Course segments are:
- Bike: 2 miles on pavement and gravel
- Paddle: 1.5 miles on moving river with small whitewater rapids and obstacles
- Run: 2 miles across the Thurmond bridge and a loop through historic Thurmond on pavement and gravel
Participants must provide their own bike, helmet, paddle, and personal flotation device unless renting a watercraft. Helmets are required for both the biking and paddling sections. No e bikes are permitted. Personal watercraft must be self propelled and no longer than 12 feet. Rental options are listed as Single Duckie with paddle and PFD for $35 and Double Duckie with two paddles and two PFDs for $45.
Entry categories include Solo, Duo, and Team (3+), with tiered registration fees that increase closer to race day; race day fees are higher than early registration. Event features include chip timing, water stations, finisher medals for children, an event t shirt for early registrants, and post race snacks and lunch. The paddling segment follows moving water; participants should be comfortable in moving water and wear a properly fitted life jacket while on the river.
