Event Overview
The Thunder Chicken 100K Stage Races take place over three days in Wildwood, Missouri. Hosted at Greensfelder County Park, specifically at the Beulah Shelter, the event traverses several trail systems including Rockwoods Reservation and Rockwoods Range. This multi-day event focuses on trail running through rugged forests, crossing creeks, and navigating scenic bluffs and vistas.
Participants can choose to compete in the full three-day stage race or enter individual stages. The terrain includes a mix of flowing singletrack and technical sections with rocks, roots, and steep elevation changes.
Race Options and Distances
The event consists of three distinct stages held on consecutive days:
- Stage 1 - Tour de Rockwoods Range: Approximately 21 miles with 2,650 feet of elevation gain.
- Stage 2 - Tour de Rockwoods Reservation: Approximately 26 miles with 4,150 feet of elevation gain.
- Stage 3 - Tour de Greensfelder: Approximately 25 km with 1,850 feet of elevation gain.
Course Details
The courses utilize a variety of trails such as the Beulah, Fossil Ridge, Deer Run, and Green Rock trails. Stage 1 is an out-and-back route with technical footing and sustained climbing. Stage 2 is a trail marathon involving steep climbs and a loop on the Lime Kiln Trail. Stage 3 offers faster singletrack sections but includes a final climb of 340 feet toward the finish.
Logistics and Sustainability
The event is strictly cup-free; participants must provide their own drinking receptacles and a mess kit for post-race food. Aid stations are located on each stage, though specific numbers vary by day. For those staying overnight, Greensfelder County Park offers tent camping and RV hook-ups with shower facilities.
