Cross Country Competition at Camp Rilea
The Three Course Challenge is a cross-country event hosted by Seaside High School. The races take place at Camp Rilea, situated north of Seaside, Oregon. Established in 1990, the event provides different course options for middle school and high school participants. The courses are marked with specific colors to indicate their terrain and difficulty level.
Participants can choose from several distinct routes based on their division:
- Easy (White Flags): A 4,300 meter course featuring a gradual incline.
- Moderate (Blue Flags): A 5,000 meter route including water crossings and the steep Elk Trail uphill.
- Difficult (Red Flags): A 5,000 meter path with three steep hills, including Butterfly Hill and Elk Trail.
- Middle School (Yellow Flags): A 3,000 meter course on grass, dirt, sand roads, and trails without any pavement.
The event utilizes chip timing to provide results. Top finishers in each division receive medals, and plaques are awarded to the top-performing teams. Live entertainment is provided near the course by a drum corps.
Organizers offer team lodging on-site at Camp Rilea. Additional communal activities include a Friday night dinner and a Saturday morning breakfast. The event focuses on the sport of cross country through varied natural terrain on the Oregon Coast. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
