Great Columbia Crossing 10K : Astoria, Oregon
The Great Columbia Crossing 10K is an annual run/walk across the Astoria-Megler Bridge, spanning the lower Columbia River between Washington and Oregon. The event takes place in October, typically on the second Sunday, and pedestrians are allowed on the bridge only during this event each year. The course is a 10 km route on a fairly flat road with one steep incline to the peak of the bridge. The Astoria-Megler Bridge is the longest continuous truss bridge in North America.
The event began in 1982 and includes an in-person race and a Virtual 10K option. The 2026 in-person field reached capacity and registration for that year sold out shortly after opening. Standard registration in 2026 was set at $60 with chip timing; late registration was listed at $65 if space remained. Youth under 10 could register for free without chip timing. Virtual registration included a T-shirt and shipping but did not provide bridge access. Long-sleeve event shirts were available for purchase and could be pre-ordered.
The Great Columbia Crossing functions as a fundraiser for the Astoria-Warrenton Area Chamber of Commerce. The event organizes volunteer shifts in the days around the race and offers volunteer perks including an event T-shirt, Clam Bucks, and entry into a volunteer drawing. Clam Bucks are wooden tokens worth $1 each and are accepted at participating chamber member businesses during the event week. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
