The course is a scenic 7.2-mile loop with about 225 feet of elevation gain and loss per loop. Runners may complete 14, 7, 5, 2, or 1 loops depending on their chosen distance. The loop includes longleaf pines, palmettos, wildlife sightings, and two footbridges. Course markings are described as clear and illuminated; runners starting a new loop after 5pm must have a headlamp.
This is a cupless event; participants should bring a handheld bottle or hydration pack. The main aid station provides water, Skratch drink, hot foods (examples listed include bacon, cheese quesadillas, vegan chili, burgers, and brats), and typical aid snacks. There is a fully stocked campground aid station with hot foods and an unmanned hydration station with a replenished igloo of water.
Pacer policies: 100 milers may have a single pacer after 50 miles; runners over 60 may have a pacer at any time; no pacers are allowed for the 14, 35, or 50 mile distances. Cutoffs are 38 hours for the 100 and 50 milers, 18 hours for the 35 miler, and 8 hours for the 14 miler.
On-site amenities include freestanding bathrooms with running water, a pavilion with picnic tables and grills, nearby parking a short distance from the start/finish, and limited campsites that the course runs through. Ten campsites are available only to 100 milers, reserved for the entire weekend for a fee and confirmed on a first-pay basis.
Finisher recognition includes a custom buckle for qualifying 100-mile finishers, medals, overall and masters awards, and a DFL award. A portion of proceeds benefits Friends of Florida State Forest and Sombrero Outreach Foundation. There are no refunds or transfers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
