Thetford Back Yard Ultra Festival
The Thetford Back Yard Ultra Festival is a endurance running event based at High Lodge in Thetford Forest, Suffolk. Following the official Backyard Ultra format, participants must complete a loop of 4.167 miles (approximately 6.706 km) every hour on the hour. The main event continues until only one person remains who can finish a loop within the time limit.
The course features wide, flat paths through forest areas with firm underfoot conditions, consisting primarily of gravel or grass footpaths. The route is fully signed and includes one small hill, making it conducive to fast lap times.
Participants can choose from three entry options:
- Thetford Back Yard Ultra Full Event
- 12 hour Event
- 6 hour Event
The 6 and 12-hour options are timed versions where runners are automatically stopped by the timing system once they reach their respective time limits. For the 6-hour race, the minimum age requirement is 12 years old, provided a parent or guardian remains on-site. Participants in the 12-hour and full events must be at least 18 years old.
The event site includes free camping for runners and crews near the start and finish area. Facilities include portable toilets and a single aid station providing hot and cold water along with basic snacks. Chip timing is used for all participants. There are no power outlets apart from a limited charging station for phones. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
