Stonyhurst Tolkien Trail Race
The Stonyhurst Tolkien Trail Race takes place on Thursday 31 December 2026 and is organised by Stonyhurst Experience at Stonyhurst College, Hurst Green, Clitheroe, Lancashire. The event route covers 11.1 km with approximately 528 ft of elevation. Entry fee is £30 per runner.
The course starts on the avenue at Stonyhurst College and passes farm tracks, woodland sections with forest steps, and an old stone bridge before reaching the River Hodder. After a short road crossing the route goes past Cromwell Bridge, follows the River Ribble where runners pass an aqueduct from 1880, and returns through woodland and a field behind the Shireburn Arms before finishing back at the college avenue. Surfaces include grassy fields, well trodden trails and occasional muddy stretches, with a mix of runnable sections and some climbs.
Registration is located outside the front of Stonyhurst College where race numbers and preordered merchandise can be collected. Parking is provided on the college grounds with a one way system and marshal direction; participants are asked to avoid using the village avenue. Post race refreshments will be available at the event village and some sellers may accept cash only.
Rules and policies include a minimum entry age of 18, a requirement to wear the issued race bib, a prohibition on running with dogs and on littering, and disqualification for rule breaches. Finishers receive a 2026 medal and a commemorative buff; additional merchandise may be purchased at booking. The organiser operates a staged cancellation and refund policy with transfer options available through SiEntries up to specified dates.
