Event overview

The Winter Tolkien Trail Race is organised by Pennine Trails and takes place on 13 December 2025 at Stonyhurst College, Hurst Green, Clitheroe, Lancashire (BB7 9PZ). Entry fee is £25.00 and the event minimum age is 18. The event was listed as full on the entry site; new entries are placed on a waiting list. Entries close 30 September 2025. Included with entry are a race medal and buff, professional race photography, chip timing, a fully flagged and marshalled course, on-site parking, professional first aid, an event village with food and drink, and prizes for top finishers and category winners.

Course and logistics

The race route is run counter-clockwise around the Tolkien Trail. Distance is 11.1km with total elevation of 528 ft. The course begins and finishes on the avenue at Stonyhurst College and passes through the village of Hurst Green, a field nicknamed "Mount Doom", riverside paths along the Ribble, an aqueduct dated 1880, Cromwell Bridge (dated 1562), and ancient woodlands with a stepped exit known as "Fangorn Forest". Parking is provided on the Stonyhurst College grounds and registration is located outside the front of the college. Runners may leave belongings at Race HQ at their own risk.
