Event Overview
The Wild Hare Trail Race takes place at Bluff Creek Ranch in Warda, Texas, near Bastrop. The event offers several trail running distances: 50 miles, 50K, 25K, 10K, and a youth 1-mile run. It is described as a fun and classic Texas trail race.
The Course
The race is run on a privately owned Texas ranch and adventure park. The course consists of a 7.8-mile loop with a mix of terrain, including a mountain bike-style section with twists, turns, and shallow dips, an open field, and some climbs and descents over a bluff. Runners on different distances share the same basic route, which merges into one trail. The 50-mile race involves a modified first lap of approximately 11 miles, followed by five full laps. The 50K covers four loops, the 25K covers two loops, and the 10K does one shortened loop.
Race Weekend and Amenities
The event features a race hub area with backyard games for spectators and families. The course is known for extensive markings with orange caution tape, yellow arrows, and confidence markers, including reflective markings for dark hours. The event is cupless; runners must bring their own cup or bottle, though collapsible cups are available for purchase. Aid stations are located at the start/finish area and a midway point approximately 3.5 miles into the loop.
Additional Information
All races are chip-timed, with chips worn on the ankle. The event includes a youth trail run and is part of the Youth Trail Series. Participants receive a shirt (if registered before the cutoff) or another swag item, along with a finisher medal. Pacers are allowed after 2 p.m. for 50-mile and 50K runners.
