The Why Not Tri
The Why Not Tri is a community triathlon held in Palmer, Alaska, at 1170 W. Bogard Rd. The event includes adult solo, team relay options, a kids race for ages 6 to 12, and a virtual solo option.

- Solo - 11.84 miles: 400 yd swim, 8.5 mi bike, 5K run
- Team Relay 2 Member - 11.84 miles
- Team Relay 3 Member - 11.84 miles
- Kids Race - 4.1 miles: 100 yd swim, 3 mi bike, 1 mi run
- Virtual Solo - 11.84 miles: same segments as Solo
The adult course combines a short pool or open swim segment, a multi-mile bike leg, and a cross-country style 5K run. The Kids Race is structured with shorter swim, bike, and run segments aimed at younger participants. A virtual option allows completion off-site following the same segment distances as the adult solo.
Organizers state the event was created to promote healthy lifestyles and to introduce triathlon to the local community. The event has involved racers, volunteers, and sponsors over several years, and it makes donations to the ALS Therapy Development Institute.
