The Ultra Bird 12hr Trail Race and RUCK Challenge
The event is a set of timed trail running and rucking events held at Pigeon Creek County Park in West Olive, Michigan. Proceeds support the Egress Endurance Project, a nonprofit focused on recovery and community through outdoor endurance activity. All events use a roughly 5K loop that runs on wooded, well groomed trails with rolling terrain and visible peak fall color.
Event distances and formats include:
- 12 Hour Trail Race accumulate as many miles/loops as possible
- 6 Hour Trail Race accumulate as many miles/loops as possible
- 10K Trail Race
- 5K Trail Race
- 6 Hour RUCK Challenge must carry a minimum 20 lb ruck or weighted vest
- 3 Hour RUCK Challenge must carry a minimum 20 lb ruck or weighted vest
The looped course has about 165 feet of elevation gain per loop with one steadier climb and a larger downhill. The start and finish are at the Pigeon Creek Ski Lodge, which also houses bathrooms. Timed events feature a fully stocked aid station at the start/finish and space for drop bags. The loop layout allows frequent access for crews and spectators. The park remains open to the public during the event; trails will be marked and organizers ask participants to respect other park users.
Additional details: on-site parking within walking distance of the lodge, pacers are allowed for the 12 hour and 6 hour events, runners in the 12 hour and 6 hour events must bring a headlamp, the event is held rain or shine, and there are no refunds though bib transfers are permitted with any required price adjustments.
