The Tick : May 9, 2026
The Tick is a point-to-point trail ultra held on the Florida National Scenic Trail through the Ocala National Forest. The published course consists of 50 miles + 7.41 bonus miles (mandatory) for a total of 57.41 miles, primarily on singletrack between Alexander Springs State Park and the Rodman Reservoir Dam. Start and finish locations alternate annually.
The event follows a wilderness route that passes lakes, prairies, marshes, and tall-growth pine and hardwood forests. Trail surfaces can be uneven and include wetlands and dense vegetation. Wildlife in the area includes deer, bobcats, black bears, hawks, eagles, scrub jays, rabbits, snakes, turtles, and other small animals; ticks are also noted as common.
Crew support is mandatory because natural water access is limited; the longest distance between crew-accessible locations is approximately 10.5 miles. Runners must arrange their own transportation from the finish back to their vehicle. A reliable communication device for runners and/or crews is required for safety.
The event is organized as an Old School FAT ASS ULTRA with no registration fee and a suggested donation of $25 per participant to support the Florida Trail. Participation is capped at 50 entrants. The format is described as remote and backcountry, with minimal event services on course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
