The event is managed by Palmetto Ultras and is held under a special use permit with the Francis Marion National Forest. The race is part of the Swamp Series, which combines mileage across three races in the forest.
Course and support
All distances use out-and-back routes across sections of the Palmetto Trail, including the Awendaw and Swamp Fox Passages. The main out-and-back segment is 52 miles; the 100 miler covers the entire Swamp Fox Passage and is listed as about 104 miles. The 50 miler is listed as about 53 miles; the half marathon is around 14 miles; the 50k and 10k are near their nominal distances. The trail is mostly single/double track with some fire roads and boardwalks, generally flat and shaded, with possible wet sections.
There are 4 aid stations plus 3 water drops along the 52-mile out-and-back. Aid stations include food, hydration, sandwiches, and porta potties. The event is cupless; runners receive a reusable collapsible cup at packet pickup. Drop bags are transported to aid stations and returned to the start/finish. Pacers are permitted for 50 and 100 mile runners; crew access is allowed at aid stations. Dogs are not allowed on course during the race.
Logistics and requirements
Packet pickup is available at The Foot Store in Mount Pleasant and at the start/finish on race morning. Optional tracking is offered for 50 and 100 mile runners for a fee with a carried device. The 100 miler has required gear checks; required items include a phone with the GPX file, ability to carry 1.5 L fluids, emergency blanket, lightweight jacket, and a power bank. Cutoffs are published for each distance. Free primitive camping is available at the overflow parking area at Buck Hall. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
