The Sunset Running Festival Edinburgh
The Sunset Running Festival is an annual summer evening running event held on the flat, tarmac seaside promenade in Edinburgh. Now in its sixth year, the event features a lap-based course with wide paths and ocean views. Each lap measures just over 7 km, allowing participants to choose from several distances. The course is officially measured and licensed by Scottish Athletics, making the marathon distance suitable as a qualifier for major international marathons.
The event offers a variety of distances to accommodate different goals:
- 7 km: A single lap of the seaside course.
- Half Marathon: A three-lap challenge.
- Individual Marathon: A six-lap race on a licensed course.
- Relay Marathon: A team entry for up to six runners, with each completing at least one lap.
- 6 Hour Ultra Challenge: A timed event to complete as many laps as possible in six hours.
- 1 km Kids Race: A shorter distance for younger participants.
The event provides full manual and technical support, including chip-timed results for all participants and marshals stationed throughout the route. Water stations are positioned twice per lap, providing hydration approximately every 2 miles. Qualified first aiders are on-site for the duration of the festival. Participants receive a medal upon completion of their chosen distance, and prizes are awarded across different distances and age categories. The route is accessible for wheel frames.
Chip pick-up is available at Cramond Kirk Hall on the Friday evening and Saturday morning prior to the event, or at Silverknowes Promenade near the Boardwalk Café on the afternoon of the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
