About the race
The MeadowGold event, presented by the Town of Minturn, is the seventh and final race in the Vail Recreation District’s Vail Trail Running Series. It takes place on Meadow Mountain in the Town of Minturn, Colorado, and follows remote singletrack and dirt-trail routes that pass through mountain meadows and historic homestead sites.
Distances:
- 11K (listed as 10.6K / 6.6 miles)
- 5K (listed as 5K / 3.1 miles)
The 11K route climbs technical singletrack on the West Grouse Trail with multiple stream crossings, meadows of wildflowers, and a descent on Line Shack Trail that offers open views of Vail Mountain and the Gore Range. The 5K route ascends Line Shack Trail for about 1.5 miles through meadows and past old homesteads before returning to the finish. Course stats: 11K elevation gain 1,362 ft, high point 8,879 ft, surface roughly 80% singletrack and 20% dirt trail; 5K elevation gain 553 ft, high point 8,310 ft, surface roughly 40% singletrack and 60% dirt trail. Maximum grades are noted on course materials.
Because the course is more remote than other series races, the organizer recommends participants bring personal water and fuel; aid stations provide water and Skratch Labs hydration. Racer parking is located at the Town of Minturn train yard with a short walk across Highway 24 to the Meadow Mountain parking lot. Age-group awards are given for both distances and finish-line food for participants is provided. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
