The MTC Severn Plod Ultra
The MTC Severn Plod Ultra is a 48 mile point to point ultramarathon that starts at the Mid Wales Art Centre, Maesmawr SY17 5SB, and finishes in Shrewsbury at the Premier Inn SY1 1PG. The route rises approximately 650 metres and descends about 581 metres, and passes through Holly Bush, Rhyd-y-felin, Dolerw Park and the Gorsedd stone circle, joins the Montgomery Canal Walk and continues past Pwll Penarth Nature Reserve, Welshpool, the Offa’s Dyke Path and the Breidden Hills en route to Montford Bridge and Bicton.
The race is managed with four staffed checkpoints and enforced cut offs; competitors must maintain an average of at least 4.0 miles per hour to continue. Checkpoint catering offers vegan and gluten free options when selected at entry; competitors with other dietary requirements must supply labelled food bags for each checkpoint. Events are cup free so competitors should bring a reusable cup.
All finishers receive a bespoke Severn Plod Ultra medal. At the start each competitor is given a complimentary MTC head visor. Male and female overall winners receive bespoke trophies. Entry is non refundable and the standard solo entry fee is stated as £90. Competitors must carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, map, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food and a basic first aid kit. GPX navigation files are recommended. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
