The San Francisco Marathon
The San Francisco Marathon is a multi-day sporting event scheduled for July 25-26, 2026. This 49th annual edition features a wide variety of road and trail races throughout the city, including a USA Track & Field-Certified full marathon that serves as a Boston qualifier and an Abbott WANDA World Qualifier.
The event includes several distances and formats to accommodate different preferences:
- Ultramarathon
- Full Marathon
- 1st Half Marathon
- 2nd Half Marathon (City Half)
- 10k Race
- Saturday 5k
- Sunday 5k
- 1k Mad Dash
- Trail Races
The race course is recognized for its scenic path through the city, including a section across the Golden Gate Bridge and along the Crissy Fields waterfront. While the city is known for its topography, the course is often noted for having less elevation than expected. Historical race temperatures for the event weekend average 64°F, providing a cool environment for summer running.
Beyond individual races, the event offers various challenges for participants, such as the Bay Bridge (SF/Oakland) Challenge, the SF/Berkeley Challenge, and the SF/LA Challenge. There is also an Athletes with Disabilities (AWD) program to support inclusive participation. Race weekend activities include a dedicated expo for packet pickup and gear. Training support is available through an official partnership with a coaching platform, providing plans tailored specifically to the San Francisco course.
