Event Overview
The River Run is an annual athletic event held in Simsbury, Connecticut, organized by the Simsbury-Granby Rotary Club. The event features multiple road races with courses that are primarily flat, utilizing smooth roads that pass alongside the Farmington River, local parks, farms, and residential areas. The start and finish lines for all events are located at the Simsbury Meadows.
Participants can choose from the following distances:
- 10 km (6.2 miles)
- 5 km (3.1 miles)
- 1 mile (Kids Run)
- 1/2 mile (Kids Run)
The 10 km course is intended for runners only, while the 5 km welcomes both runners and walkers. For the 5 km and 10 km events, the route includes a section over the Drake Hill Bridge. Participants in the 10 km separate from the 5 km path just after the one-mile mark. Timing for these races is recorded using chips attached to the race bibs.
Youth participants aged 12 and under can take part in the Kids Run, which offers both a 1 mile and a 1/2 mile option. All children who finish receive a medal and a certificate of completion.
General amenities include an athletic t-shirt for pre-registered participants in the adult races and all participants in the youth races. Parking is available in commuter lots along Iron Horse Boulevard, within walking distance of the venue. The event also includes a post-race gathering featuring food and music.
