About the race
The River Run is an athletic event held in Simsbury, Connecticut. The competition features road races along a very flat course consisting of smooth surfaces. The route travels through residential areas and past local parks, the Farmington River, and farms.
Participants can choose from the following distances:
- 10 km road race
- 5 km road race
- 1 mile Kids Run
The 10 km and 5 km courses are USATF certified. The event uses electronic timing with chips attached to the race bibs, providing all runners with their final time and placement. The Kids Run is designed for children up to 12 years old, and parents are permitted to run alongside their children.
Post-race activities include a celebration where finishers over the age of 21 can receive a beer. Food is available from a donut food truck, and live music is provided. Awards are presented to the overall winners and the top three finishers in various age categories ranging from 14 and under to 70 and older. Registration for the road races includes a t-shirt, while kids' race participants receive a bib, t-shirt, medal, and certificate. Dogs on leashes and strollers are permitted but must start at the rear of the field.
The event is organized by the Simsbury-Granby Rotary Club. Proceeds from the registration fees are used to support community projects and local fundraising efforts. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
