Event Overview
The Ridgeway 40 is a linear long-distance event for walkers and runners. The route covers a distance of 40 miles, starting at the Avebury Sports and Social Club in Wiltshire and concluding at the Morrell Room in Streatley, Berkshire. This course follows the ancient Ridgeway track and the Herepath, traversing the undulating chalk downlands of Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, and Berkshire.
The event is organized by the Ridgeway 40 Walk Association with support from the Reading Outdoor Group. Participation is open to individuals aged 14 and older. The field is limited to 250 participants, and registration must be completed in advance as there are no entries available on the day of the event.
Course and Logistics
The route requires participants to navigate using Landranger maps 173 and 174 or digital equivalents. Key logistics for the event include:

A coach service is available for an additional fee to transport participants from Streatley Youth Hostel to the starting point in Avebury. Participants are responsible for their own transport if they retire at any of the checkpoints along the route, as the organizers do not provide transport for retirees to the finish line.
Provisions and Amenities
Supplies including snacks and drinks are provided at most checkpoints, and refreshments are available at the finish line. Participants are required to bring their own reusable mug or cup for drinks. Upon successful completion of the course within the specified checkpoint closing times, entrants receive a cloth badge and an electronic certificate.
