The Red Centre Wringer Backyard Ultra
The Alice Springs Running and Walking Club runs The Red Centre Wringer as a backyard ultra at the Telegraph Station Historical Reserve in Alice Springs. The course uses the East/Stuart/Arrwe loop and is primarily single track with varied terrain. The loop length is 6.7056 kilometers and for this edition the loop will be run anti-clockwise.
A backyard ultra is a last person standing format in which each participant must complete the loop within one hour. Each loop starts exactly one hour after the previous, with warnings issued three, two, and one minute before the start. Competitors must be at the starting corral and start with the bell; late starts are not allowed. Except for restroom use, competitors must not leave the course during a loop. No non-competitors are permitted on the course, and no personal aid is allowed during a loop though common aid stations are permitted. Artificial aids including trekking poles are not allowed. Slower runners are required to allow faster runners to pass.
Timing of individual loops is optional and this event does not time loops. The winner is the last person to complete a loop; all other competitors are recorded as DNF with results showing distance covered. The race is open-ended with no prescribed end time. Volunteer registration opens several months before the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
