Event Overview
Run Larapinta is a four-day trail running stage race held in Australia's Red Centre. It takes place in Alice Springs, Northern Territory. The 2026 edition is scheduled for August 14–17.
Race Formats
Participants can choose between two multi-day race formats, named after Indigenous artists Albert Namatjira and Harold Malbunka.
Malbunka (Long Course) This is the longer four-stage race. The daily stage distances are 19.5 km, 41 km, 33 km, and 34 km.
Namatjira (Short Course) This is the shorter four-stage race. The daily stage distances are 13.5 km, 20 km, 22 km, and 27 km.
Course Details
The event uses sections of the Larapinta Trail. Stage 1 starts at the Old Telegraph Station in Alice Springs and finishes at the Mercure hotel. Other stages include routes from Simpsons Gap to Standley Chasm, Birthday Waterhole to Standley Chasm, Ochre Pits to Ellery Creek Waterhole, and Counts Point turn-off to Ellery Creek Waterhole. The terrain includes boulder hopping and ridge-line scrambles.
