Trail Running in the Red Centre
Run Larapinta is a four-day stage race located in Alice Springs, Northern Territory. The event takes place on sections of the Larapinta Trail, featuring diverse terrain such as boulder fields, ridge-line scrambles, mountain ridgelines, and dry sandy river beds. The competition is structured into two main categories, each consisting of four stages held over consecutive days.
Participants can choose between two course lengths for the full four-day experience:
- The Malbunka (Long Course): Stages of 19.5 km, 41 km, 33 km, and 34 km.
- The Namatjira (Short Course): Stages of 13.5 km, 20 km, 22 km, and 27 km.
The stages connect various landmarks within the region, including the Old Telegraph Station, Simpsons Gap, Standley Chasm, Birthday Waterhole, Ochre Pits, and Ellery Creek Waterhole. While the race is designed as a four-day journey, options for single-stage entries are also available depending on capacity.
Full race support is provided to participants, covering logistics and services throughout the event. The course is characterized by technical trail features, including rocky sections and elevation changes on the high route loops and ridgelines. The event is open to runners of various speeds, with a focus on completing the course through a combination of running and hiking as required by the desert terrain.
