The Race Before The Game
The Race Before The Game is a sports event held in downtown Sandusky, Ohio, taking place on the morning of the annual football game between Ohio State and Michigan. This event utilizes the city's street grid to create courses that form specific shapes related to the two teams. Participants use the city sidewalks and are required to follow all traffic laws during their run or walk.
The event offers several participation options based on team affiliation and preferred distance:
- Dot the i: A course of approximately 5 miles for Ohio State fans that follows a route forming the "Script Ohio."
- Block the M: A course of approximately 4 miles designated for Michigan fans.
- The OH-IO Two-person Relay: A 5 mile relay where two participants each complete approximately 2.5 miles of the "Script Ohio" route.
- The Big O: A shorter walking option covering approximately 1.2 miles to complete the "O" shape.
The event starts and finishes at Central Park and Cameo Pizza on Monroe Street. Those participating in the 5 mile "Dot the i" route have a 90 minute time limit to complete the course. Individuals who register by the mid-November deadline receive a long-sleeved shirt. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the event in Sandusky.
