The Quest! Adventure Run
The Quest! is a fantasy-themed trail event in Auburn, California on March 7, 2026. The format combines trail running with role-playing elements: participants choose a class by rolling a virtual die, follow a nonfixed route, complete side quests, encounter themed bosses, and receive time adjustments based on performance. The event base is Auburn Alehouse Annex, 103 Sacramento St, Auburn, CA 95603.
Distances available:
- 6 miles minimum, upwards of 500 ft elevation gain
- 16 miles minimum, upwards of 1500 ft elevation gain
Each entrant receives a custom D20 die, a trail map with quest details, a runners bib, and a Quest T-shirt. The entry fee listed is $40 and includes entry, the T-shirt, and a post-run beer or cider. A camera phone is required for some side quests; a backpack and water bottle are recommended.
Sixteen designed side quests use riddles, phone tasks, item carrying, searches, and physical tasks. Runners start with a 40-minute time addition when they finish; completing side quests reduces overall time by at least five minutes per completed quest. Parties may form; a party is any group of four runners and each person may belong to one party. Boss characters such as a Fairie, Wizard, Dragon, and Goblin are placed along the routes, and participants turn in quest rewards and roll dice at the finish to determine final adjusted times and overall placement.
