The Quest! Adventure Race
The Quest! is a fantasy trail run in Auburn, California on March 13, 2027, organized by BAD LUCK RUN CLUB. Runners choose between two secret-course distances and navigate trails with thematic challenges, side quests, and boss encounters. Finish results depend on both running and quest performance rather than time alone.
Distances
- 6 miles: minimum 6 miles, about 500 ft elevation gain
- 12 miles: minimum 12 miles, about 1500 ft elevation gain
Participants roll a virtual d20 to determine a character class (examples include Frog Knight, Rogue, Cleric, and Knight); the roll is recorded and final. Teams of two to three runners can form parties to unlock party bonuses, with each class counted once per party. Side quests include riddles, scavenger hunts, physical challenges, and locating items; each completed side quest reduces overall time by at least five minutes. Each runner starts with 40 minutes added to their overall time that can be reduced through quest completion.
Required and recommended gear includes a camera phone for certain quests, and a backpack and water bottle for carrying items and hydration. Entry cost is listed as $64 and includes a custom d20, a t-shirt, and a post-run cider. Results and race-day details are managed through the event's runners hub and post-race check-in at Ponderosa Cider Co. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
