The Quest! Adventure Race
The Quest! is a fantasy trail event on March 13, 2027 at Ponderosa Cider Co in Auburn, California. The format combines trail running with roleplaying elements: each registered participant rolls a virtual D20 to determine a character class that gives a unique ability and party bonus.
Distances include:
- 12 miles minimum, about 1500 ft elevation gain
- 6 miles minimum, about 500 ft elevation gain
Routes are kept secret until event day. Runners may form parties of 2–3 to unlock class-based party bonuses that reduce final times. The event uses an adjusted finish time system: every runner has 40 minutes added to their time as a baseline, and completed side quests reduce that time, with each side quest giving at least 5 minutes off. Side quests are placed along the course and include riddles, scavenger tasks, physical challenges, and locating roaming boss characters.
Registered participants receive a custom D20, a trail map with quest details, a runners bib, and an event T-shirt; a post-run cider is included. The published event fee is $64 and covers entry and the listed items. A camera phone is required for some side quests; a backpack and water bottle are recommended. Costumes are encouraged.
