The Quest! - BAD LUCK RUN CLUB
The Quest! is a fantasy themed trail event on March 13, 2027 in Auburn, California at Ponderosa Cider Co. The format combines trail running with game elements: runners roll a virtual D20 to determine a character class, seek out side quests, and encounter bosses along the route. Final results are adjusted by completed quests and party bonuses rather than raw time alone.
Distances include:
- Sprint 6 miles minimum, about 500 ft elevation gain.
- Odyssey 12 miles minimum, about 1500 ft elevation gain.
Each entrant begins with a 40 minute addition to their overall time. Completing side quests reduces that time; each completed side quest removes at least 5 minutes. Parties of 2 to 3 runners can unlock class based bonuses that further reduce adjusted times. Classes have distinct abilities that affect quest outcomes and party scoring.
Required personal gear includes a camera phone for some side quests; a backpack and water bottle are recommended. Registered runners receive a custom D20, a course map with quest details, a runners bib indicating class, an event t shirt, and a post run cider. Side quests involve riddles, scavenger hunts, physical tasks, and locating themed characters. At the finish area runners turn in rewards and resolve dice results to determine final placements.
