Event details
The Quest! is a fantasy-themed trail run in Auburn, California, held on March 7, 2026. The event is based at Auburn Alehouse Annex, 103 Sacramento St, Auburn, CA 95603. Registration closes on March 6. Entry cost is $40, which includes a t-shirt and a post-run beer or cider.
Courses and format
Participants choose between:
- 16 miles (minimum), with upwards of 1500 ft elevation gain.
- 6 miles (minimum), with upwards of 500 ft elevation gain.
Routes are kept secret until event day. The run includes 16 designed side quests placed along the course. Each participant starts with 40 minutes added to their overall time; completing side quests reduces that time. Each completed side quest gives at least 5 minutes off the overall time. Boss characters such as a Fairie, Wizard, Dragon, and Goblin are placed on the route. Final adjusted times determine race rankings.
Classes, parties, and gear
Runners are assigned a character class by a virtual dice roll before the run. Classes have different abilities and party bonuses. Parties may include up to four runners; limit one party per person. Required or recommended gear listed by the organizer includes a camera phone (required for some side quests), a backpack, and a water bottle. Every participant receives a custom D20 die, a trail map with quest details, and a t-shirt. Costumes are encouraged but optional. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
