The Quest! Adventure Race
The Quest! is a fantasy trail event in Auburn, California on March 13, 2027. It combines trail running with game elements: each registered participant rolls a virtual D20 to receive a character class and a class-specific ability. Classes influence individual abilities and party bonuses on race day. Cost is $64 and includes a custom D20, an event t-shirt, a trail map with quest details, and a post-run cider.
The course features side quests placed along the route. Each completed side quest reduces the runner's overall time by at least five minutes; runners begin with a 40 minute baseline addition that can be decreased through quest completion. Side quests include riddles, scavenger hunts, physical challenges, and locating themed characters. Parties of runners unlock class-based party bonuses; parties are formed before the race and are verified at the end of the event.
Required or recommended personal gear is specified: a camera phone is required for some side quests; a backpack and water bottle are recommended. Costumes are encouraged and not required to match a rolled class. At the finish area participants turn in rewards and roll dice in a final event sequence before receiving post-run refreshments.
