Event Overview
The Purbeck Marathon takes place in Swanage, Dorset, and follows a scenic route across the Purbeck Hills and the Jurassic Coast. The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and adheres to UK Athletics rules. Participants can choose between two trail distances that traverse coastal paths, rugged terrain, and steep climbs.
The course passes through an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, featuring views of cliffs, beaches, and the wild countryside. Key landmarks along the route include the ruins of Corfe Castle, the abandoned village of Tyneham, and various stretches of the Dorset coastline.

Participation and Equipment
The event is open to individuals aged 18 and over. Registration is required in advance, with an early-bird period available until late March. Runners are required to carry a mandatory kit, which includes a running vest or belt, the capacity to carry at least 500 ml of water, a whistle, a foil blanket, and a fully charged mobile phone. A GPS device with the route uploaded is also mandatory for navigation. Trail running shoes and technical clothing are recommended for the uneven terrain.
The event includes a bag drop area and bib collection services in Swanage. A time limit of 7 hours and 11 minutes is in place for the marathon distance.
