Event Overview
The Pirate 5k Run/Walk is a timed 5k event held in Lincolnton, North Carolina. It is described as the fourth annual event. Participants are welcome to dress in a pirate-themed costume.
Location and Course
The start and finish location is Historic St. Luke's Episcopal Church at 315 North Cedar Street. The course begins on North Cedar Street and includes a section on the paved Lincolnton Rail Trail, entering at First Federal Park. The route involves several turns through city streets and an out-and-back section on the trail.
Registration and Details
The event features age-based pricing for students. Packet pickup is available on the Friday before from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and on race day from 6:30 AM to 7:00 AM at the parish house. Race day registration is also available during that same hour. The deadline to guarantee a race shirt is August 3rd.
Awards and Participation
Awards are given to the overall male and female finishers, as well as to the first, second, and third place in each age group. All participants receive a finisher medal. Age groups are listed for both males and females, starting from 14 and under up to 80 and over.
Historical Context
The event's pirate theme is connected to local lore. The church graveyard at the start is said to be the final resting place of Lorenzo Ferrier, a figure some theorize may have been the pirate Jean Lafitte. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
