The OMM
The OMM is a two day, self-reliant mountain marathon held in Talnotry, Scotland on 24 and 25 October 2026. Competitors take part in teams of two (teams of three are also permitted) and must carry all equipment and food needed for the weekend, including the overnight camp kit. The event uses printed 1:40000 Harvey Maps on waterproof synthetic paper; maps for each day are issued at the start line.
There are two competition formats: linear courses where specified checkpoints must be visited in order, and score courses where teams choose which checkpoints to visit within a set time. Example linear courses and example straight line distances (guides only):
- Elite course : Day 1: 47 km / 2200 m ascent
- A course : Day 1: 36 km / 1650 m ascent
- B course : Day 1: 25 km / 1100 m ascent
Score course time allowances (examples only) include long, medium and short options across the two days.
Navigation is by map and compass; electronic devices must not be used for navigation. Teams must remain together and carry required personal and team kit listed by the organisers, including a tent for the team, stove and food for the duration. Timing tags and trackers are used for safety and must be returned at event close. The event publishes ecological reports and runs on a not for profit basis.
