The Moors the Merrier
The Moors the Merrier is a winter walk and running event held in December around the moors near Hebden Bridge. The route is a 21-mile circular course with about 3900 ft of ascent. The 2026 venue is Mytholmroyd Community Centre in Mytholmroyd, Hebden Bridge HX7 5AF, with the route run anti-clockwise over Midgley Moor, Wadsworth Moor, Heptonstall Moor and Erringden Moor before dropping back to Mytholmroyd.
The event is fully supported with staffed checkpoints, hot drinks at the start, and a hot meal of pie and peas at the finish. Changing rooms and showers are available at the community centre and a bar opens in the afternoon. Checkpoints include the Jumble Hole location and there is a bran tub with donated presents and a raffle.
Participants must be 18 or older. Entries are limited to 400 and there are no entries on the day. Entry fees are listed as £35 for affiliated runners and £37 for non-affiliated runners. The route is not flagged and requires navigation; GPS devices are permitted as a safety backup and a GPX file is available. Final event details are sent by email before the event.
All participants must carry essential kit. Required items include a Santa hat, a present for the bran tub (max £5), waterproofs with taped seams and a hood, hat and gloves, map, compass and whistle, spare long sleeve top, spare food and drink, survival bag and a headtorch.
