Moors The Merrier 21 : event description
Moors The Merrier 21 is a winter 21 mile circular route around the moors of Hebden Bridge, starting and finishing at Mytholmroyd Community Centre. The course runs anti clockwise, ascends the main hill and crosses Midgley Moor, Wadsworth Moor, Heptonstall Moor and Erringden Moor, with a downhill finish back to the community centre. Route maps, a GPX file and a designated bad weather route with its own GPX were updated on 3 December 2024.
As a winter event, organisers require specific minimum equipment. Required items include a Santa hat and a present for the Bran Tub worth no more than £5; waterproof top and bottoms with taped seams and a hooded jacket; hat and gloves; map, compass and whistle; spare long sleeve top; spare food and drink; survival bag; and headtorch. A plastic mug for hot drinks is optional. Changing rooms with showers are available and a hot meal is provided afterwards.
The event introduced Open Tracking in 2024 to allow progress to be followed and to support participant safety in poor winter weather. The 2026 entry fee is £35 for both affiliated and unaffiliated entrants. The race is run under UKA rules and is licensed with the Trail Running Association and the Fell Running Association. Volunteer marshals receive race credit for future events. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
