The Moors the Merrier
The Moors the Merrier is a winter walking and running event held in December around the moors of Hebden Bridge. The course is a circular route of 21 miles with about 3900 ft of ascent. The route is anti-clockwise and passes over Midgley Moor, Wadsworth Moor, Heptonstall Moor and Erringden Moor, finishing at Mytholmroyd Community Centre.
The event is fully supported with well stocked checkpoints, tracking supplied by OpenTracking and live results. Tea, coffee and toast are provided at the start and a hot meal of pie and peas plus sweet treats is provided at the finish. Changing rooms and showers are available at the community centre and a bar opens later in the day. There is a bran tub of donated presents and a raffle.
Participants must carry mandatory winter kit including a Santa hat and a present for the bran tub (maximum value stated as £5 at registration), waterproofs top and bottoms with taped seams, a hooded jacket, hat and gloves, map, compass and whistle, survival bag, headtorch, spare warm clothing and spare food and drink. The route is not flagged and requires navigation; GPS devices are allowed only as a safety backup and a GPX file is available. Entry is limited to 400 participants and entry fees are listed as £35 for affiliated and £37 for non affiliated. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
