The Moors the Merrier
The event is a winter walk and race held on 12 December 2026 around the moors near Hebden Bridge. The route is a 21-mile circular course with about 3900 ft of ascent. The anti-clockwise route crosses Midgley Moor, Wadsworth Moor, Heptonstall Moor and Erringden Moor and finishes at Mytholmroyd Community Centre in Hebden Bridge.
The event offers staffed checkpoints and live tracking supplied by OpenTracking plus live results. Participants receive tea, coffee and toast at the start and a hot pie and peas with additional seasonal treats at the finish. Changing rooms and showers are available at the community centre and a bar opens in the afternoon. A bran tub of donated presents and a raffle are part of the event social arrangements.
Entry is limited to 400 competitors and the race age limit is 18 years or older. The route is not waymarked and requires navigation; GPS devices are allowed only as a safety backup. Participants must follow the route description and visit checkpoints in order because of access arrangements. Dogs are permitted only for early starters and must remain on a lead.
Mandatory kit includes a Santa hat and a present for the bran tub (maximum value stated as £5), waterproof top and bottoms with taped seams and hood, hat and gloves, map compass and whistle, spare clothing and food, survival bag and headtorch.
