The Moors the Merrier
The Moors the Merrier is a winter walk and fell race held around the moors near Hebden Bridge, starting and finishing at Mytholmroyd Community Centre. The route is a 21 mile circular course with about 3900 ft of ascent and runs anti clockwise over Midgley Moor, Wadsworth Moor, Heptonstall Moor and Erringden Moor before descending to Mytholmroyd.
The event offers a race and a walk or non competitive run. The race has a minimum age of 18 and entries are limited to 400 with no entries on the day. Entry fees listed are Affiliated £35 and Non affiliated £37. Tracking is supplied by OpenTracking and live results are provided. The course is not flagged and requires navigational skills; a GPX file is available on the event website and GPS devices are allowed only as a safety backup. Participants must follow the route description and visit all checkpoints in order.
Support and facilities include well stocked checkpoints including Jumble Hole, tea coffee and toast at the start, pie and peas and sweet treats at the finish, changing rooms and showers at the community centre, and a bar open from early afternoon. A bran tub of presents and a raffle are included.
Mandatory kit includes a Santa hat and a present to hand in (maximum £5), waterproofs top and bottoms with taped seams and hooded jacket, hat and gloves, map compass and whistle, spare long sleeve top, spare food and drink, survival bag and a headtorch.
