Event Overview

The Maverick North Downs Trail 2026 takes place on 27 June 2026 at Cranleigh Showground, Cranleigh, Surrey (GU6 7DW). It is an offline trail running event organised by Maverick Race.

The routes explore the Surrey Hills and parts of the North Downs Way, passing through Winterfold and Hurtwood Forest, with views from Pitch Hill. The longer routes visit Leith Hill and Ranmore Common. The terrain is mainly undulating forest trails and fields, with several hills.

The event is plastic free at outposts, so runners need a reusable cup or bottle for drinks. Participants under 18 must run with a participating adult. Free parking is available at the venue, and there is a bag drop area, fully marked courses, timing, online results, event photography, food and drink, a metal finisher medal, and non alcoholic beer.

Distances and Elevation

Five trail distances are offered:

  • 50k Ultra - 52 km, about +1387 m elevation
  • Marathon - 43 km, about +1104 m elevation
  • Half Marathon - 22 km, about +590–597 m elevation
  • Middle - 11 km, about +317 m elevation
  • Short - 5 km, about +97 m elevation

The Middle and Short routes have no outposts. The Half Marathon has one outpost at around 12 km. The Marathon route has three outposts (around 12 km, 19 km, and 33.5 km). The 50k Ultra has four outposts, including Peaslake Village Hall and the base of Leith Hill.

Safety and Mandatory Kit

For the 50k Ultra and Marathon, mandatory kit includes: waterproof jacket, mobile phone, at least 1 litre of water, about 800 calories of food, foil blanket, whistle, self-adhering elastic bandage, cap or buff, reusable cup, and GPX of the route on a watch or phone. All runners are strongly advised to carry a phone and at least 1 litre of water.

There are cut-off points and times on the Ultra and Marathon routes, allowing up to 8 hours 30 minutes to complete the course. Outposts provide water, electrolyte drinks, and a mix of sweet and savoury snacks. Headphones are not recommended for this event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
