Serpent Trail Ultra Run
Starting and finishing in Haslemere, this guided trail run follows notable sections of the Serpent Trail and the Sussex Border Path. The route approaches Blackdown and includes the Temple of the Winds lookout, which offers views of the South Downs. Runners then follow the Serpent Trail south across fields and ancient woodland, later heading west across heathland, through woodland and valleys, before returning to Haslemere via a variety of trails. A short refreshment break is included on the route.
The event is conducted as a group run rather than a race. Participants are advised to have previously run at least 22 miles in training and to be able to maintain an average pace of about 10 min/miles | 6 min/km for prolonged periods on trail surfaces. Ultra running first timers are welcomed; a full kit list is provided in advance. Trail shoes (Salomon Sense Ride 2 and Speedcross 5) are available to test on request, subject to size availability.
Haslemere is served by car and by train; there are several car parks near the meeting point and a nearby train station on the main line between London and Portsmouth. The organiser, Running Adventures, is based in Guildford, Surrey. After the run participants may receive an alcohol-free beer from Days Brewing Company, subject to availability.
