The Maverick Dark Castle Trail - Corfe Castle, Dorset
The Maverick Dark Castle Trail is an evening trail running event based at Corfe Castle in Dorset. The course runs from the castle site, across Corfe Common, through the village of Church Knowle and up onto the ridge at Knowle Hill with views across Purbeck and distant lights of Poole Harbour. Sections pass through woodland, open heath and tight single-track, and participants may encounter Sika deer.
Routes and elevations:
- 15 km - +243 m elevation
- 11 km - +225 m elevation
- 5 km - +120 m elevation
Trail surfaces include soft, muddy sections in November, with some hard-packed or short road sections. The Long and Middle routes continue along the ridge to Stone Hill Down and then through tighter single-track toward Blue Poole; the Long route has one outpost at approximately 7 km. There are no outposts on the Middle and Short routes. There are no toilets on the run route; toilets are available in the start and finish area.
On site there is marked parking (the car park is a 15-20 minute walk from the main venue), fully marked course, timing and online results, bag drop, event photography, hot food and drink, fire pits, and a metal finishers medal. Dogs are not allowed within the event venue.
Recommended kit includes a headtorch or chest torch, trail shoes, raincoat, long sleeve top, foil blanket and a water bottle or running pack. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
