The Maverick Chilterns Trail 2026

The Maverick Chilterns Trail is a one-day trail running event on 11 July 2026 at Princes Risborough School, Merton Road, Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire HP27 0DR. The event is organised by Maverick Race and uses routes that cross parts of the Ridgeway and Chiltern Way.

The course runs through ancient beech woodlands, sweeping ridgelines and hidden valleys with views across Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. Terrain includes chalky trails, woodland singletrack and several punchy climbs. GPX files and mapped routes are provided for each distance.

Available distances and elevation gains:

  • 50 km 1095 m elevation
  • 40 km 906 m elevation
  • 22 km 583 m elevation
  • 14 km 301 m elevation
  • 8 km 209 m elevation

Outpost and support details: there are no outposts on the Short and Middle routes, one outpost on the Half Marathon, four on the Marathon and five on the 50k Ultra. Outposts offer a range of fruit, cake, crisps, gels and electrolyte drink. There will not be prefilled water cups; runners should use a reusable cup or bottle and self-serve from water barrels. Maverick offers Speed Cups for purchase.

Safety and rules: all runners are advised to carry at least 1 litre of water and a mobile phone. The 50k Ultra and Marathon require specific mandatory items including a waterproof jacket, mobile phone, 800 calories of food, minimum 1 litre water, foil blanket, whistle, self-adhering bandage, cap or buff, reusable cup and a GPX of the route. Cut off times are 8 hours 30 minutes for the 50k Ultra and 8 hours for the Marathon. The event is not dog friendly and participants under 18 must be accompanied by a participating adult.
