The Loop Ultra
The Loop Ultra is a trail running event based at Camp Plas near the village of Dolanog in the Cambrian Mountains of Mid Wales. The route is fully marked and supported by back runners and rangers. The field is capped at 100 runners.
Distances offered include:
- 20 miles (approx 32.5 km)
- 32 miles (listed also as 50 km)
- 40 miles (approx 65 km)
Reported elevation figures include 4,862 ft for the 32 mile route, 4,553 ft for the 20 mile option and 9,106 ft for the 40 mile option. The 32 mile event follows trails, forest tracks and ancient paths en route to Lake Vrynwy and often skirts the Glyndwr Way, with views towards the Shropshire Hills and southern Snowdonia. Wildlife, including red kites, is commonly seen.
The event uses Camp Plas as a base with exclusive camping, bell tents, log cabins and on site toilets and showers for residents. Facilities include porteraloos for non campers, refreshment points, a full medical team, wild swimming, mobile sauna, yoga sessions, live music and locally sourced food and bar services. Parking arrangements and a small charge for day parking apply.
Canicross is permitted; dogs must be at least 12 months old, kept on a lead and managed by their owner. A mandatory kit list is enforced and will be checked at registration.
