The Loop Ultra
The Loop Ultra is a 32-mile (50 km) trail running event in the Cambrian Mountains of Mid Wales. The route starts and finishes at Camp Plas (Plas Dolanog, Welshpool, SY21 0NA) and follows trails, forest tracks and ancient paths. The course passes near Lake Vrynwy and often skirts the Glyndwr Way, with views towards the Shropshire Hills and southern Snowdonia. The route is fully marked and supported by back runners and rangers. The field is limited to 100 runners. Total ascent is given as approximately 4,862 ft and the event uses a 14 hour cut off.
Event details and facilities
The event is canicross friendly; dogs must be at least 12 months old, fit to run and kept on the lead, with owners taking full responsibility. Entry fee is £85 and the minimum age is 17. Camp Plas is used exclusively for the weekend and offers camping, bell tents and log cabins with toilets and showers for campers; porta-loos are provided for non-campers. Other on-site facilities include free parking for campers, paid day parking, a full medical team, checkpoint refuelling for dietary needs, and refreshments after the event. Weekend activities listed include a pre-race barbecue, live music in the barn, paddle boarding, a mobile sauna, yoga and opportunities for wild swimming when conditions allow.
Mandatory kit is required and checked; examples include a waterproof jacket and trousers, race vest or pack, base layer, capacity to carry 1 litre of fluid, map or GPX file, fully charged mobile phone and power pack, head torch and whistle, first aid kit, foil blanket, reusable cup and appropriate trail footwear.
