The Longest Night
The Longest Night Trail and Ultra Run takes place at the Lakewood Nature Preserve in Greenville, South Carolina. This overnight event is held on a 1.5-mile loop consisting of wide grassy paths with rolling hills. Runners navigate the course in the dark, beginning at sunset and finishing as the sun rises.
Participants can choose from several distances based on the number of completed loops:
- 50 Miles: 34 Laps
- 50K: 21 Laps
- Marathon: 18 Laps
- Half Marathon: 9 Laps
- 10K: 4 Laps
The event follows a specific time schedule where all runners must adhere to a pace of under 25 minutes per lap. The central hub for the event is a barn which serves as the start and finish line, the aid station, and the area for personal setups. This is a cup-less event, so participants are required to bring their own hydration vessels. The aid station provides water, soda, hydration drinks, and various snacks such as hot vegetable soup, broth, pickles, chips, and candy.
The venue offers space for tents, tables, and portable fire pits, provided they are off the ground or on a protective barrier. Because the preserve has no power or water utilities, runners should prepare accordingly. Parking is available near the barn and in adjacent field lots, with specific regulations for road parking to ensure access. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
