Leighton Hall : Arnside and Silverdale National Landscape
Leighton Hall hosts trail events on scenic routes in north Lancashire with views over Morecambe Bay. The courses run on mainly hard packed trails with occasional muddy sections and some short road sections. Routes are waymarked and marshalled, and runners should be prepared to slow or walk on tricky terrain and to close gates behind them where required.
Practical details on the day include on-site parking on grass for cars and small vans, a registration marquee for race number collection, baggage storage adjacent to the main marquee, and real-time results online. Race numbers must be worn horizontally so the timing chip can be read. Water stations require runners to bring their own cup; water is provided at set points on course and some stations will supply food on the half marathon route. In ear and over ear headphones are not allowed; bone conductor headphones are permitted. Medical cover and radio communications will be in place.
An event village features local food vendors and a sports retailer offering trail kit and footwear. Children under 12 can take part in free on-the-day fun trails and receive finishers’ medals; these runs emphasise participation so there are no winners’ prizes. The event relies on a large team of volunteers and requires more than fifty marshals and stewards.
