Leighton Hall Lakeland Trails
Leighton Hall hosts a set of trail running events in the Arnside and Silverdale National Landscape near the Lake District. The courses offer views across the River Kent estuary and Morecambe Bay and run mainly on hard packed trails with occasional muddy sections.
- 10k - flowing run through farmland and reedbeds finishing in front of Leighton Hall
- Half Marathon Challenge - route further into the Arnside and Silverdale area for a paced experience
- Half Marathon Race - same general area focused on faster completion and competition
Each event has an age minimum and a time limit: the 10k requires entrants to be at least 16 and has a 2 hour limit; both half marathon events require entrants to be at least 18 with limits of 4 hours for the Challenge and 3 hours for the Race. Dogs are not allowed on the course or in the venue.
Courses are waymarked and marshalled by over 50 volunteers. There are some road sections and private land access so runners should stay alert, close gates behind them, and be prepared to slow down where necessary. In ear headphones are not allowed; bone conduction headphones are permitted.
Water stations will be provided at specified points on the courses but cups are not supplied, so runners should carry water or bring a reusable cup. Parking is charged on site with free parking offered for vehicles carrying four or more occupants and vehicle size is limited to small vans or camper vans up to the size of a VW Transporter.
