The Last Wolf - Kings Mountain, NC
The Last Wolf is a Last Man Standing event organized by Dirty Wolf Ultras in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. The race uses a 3.1-mile loop that runners repeat until only one participant remains. The loop time limit cycles through 40, 45, 50, 55, and 60 minutes, then resets to 40 minutes and repeats. Runners who fail to complete a loop within the current cutoff are eliminated. The final result requires one runner to complete a solo loop within the active time limit; if that does not occur, the race can end with no winner.
The trail course is an out-and-back of roughly one mile out then back, with a gravel surface and some uphill and downhill sections. Packet pickup is held on race day only. Aid station supplies include basic food items such as pickles, cereal, pretzels, candy, fruit, and bacon, plus hydration options including water, Tailwind, and various sodas; first aid supplies will be available at the aid station.
Race rules state that bibs must be worn visibly on the front, trekking poles are not allowed, no dogs or strollers are permitted on course except by special exception, and unregistered participants are not allowed. Finishers receive a unique medal. Photos are available approximately one week after the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
