Event Overview
The Lake Run is an annual tradition occurring at Lake Bloomington in Hudson, Illinois. First established in 1982, the event has expanded from a single loop to multiple course options. The 2026 edition features a theme centered on International Harry Potter Day, incorporating costume-based categories for participants.
The event offers several distances and participation formats:
- 12K (approximately 7.44 miles)
- 4.37 Mile inner loop
- 3 Mile Walk
- No Shirt-No-Time-No-Frills option for all distances
Competitive categories include standard age groups as well as specific weight-based classes. The "footpounder" classes are available for men over 220 lb and women over 190 lb, while "footpounder light" covers men from 190-219 lb and women from 150-179 lb. The 2026 theme also introduces categories for the fastest witch, wizard, and muggle, which require the use of costumes.
Standard entries include chip timing with live results and a post-race gathering at the Green Gables outdoor beer garden. This party features food and a complimentary beverage for participants over 21, including craft, domestic, and non-alcoholic options.
