The Kook Run - Encinitas, CA
The Kook Run is a coastal road race scheduled for February 14, 2027 in downtown Encinitas, California. The event offers two main distances and a separate kids run for younger participants.

The 10K and 5K follow an out and back route along Coast Highway 101 with ocean and beach views. The course begins and finishes under the Historic Encinitas sign, features gradual downhill sections at the start, and includes some uphill segments on the return. The 10K turnaround is at South Cardiff State Beach. The course limit is two hours. Two on-course aid stations are provided for the 10K; aid stations include water, electrolytes, and nutrition. A finish line water station and official race results are provided.
Event logistics note packet pickup at the Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA on February 13. Public parking options listed near the event include the Encinitas Library lot, Civic Center lot, Moonlight Beach lot, the Coaster station area, and nearby street parking. The train and bus station is one block from the race area. A BCycle bike valet is available.
Additional event elements include a finish line festival with live music, a beer garden, breakfast tacos, vendors, and games; a costume contest with group and individual categories judged by Cardiff 101 board members; and the Junior Kook Run for ages 3 to 12 with a $15 registration fee and commemorative medal. Strollers are permitted; dogs are allowed on leash and should start near the back. No gear check is provided. Refunds are not offered. Cash prizes apply to the elite 10K only while other awards are medals or sponsor prizes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
