Event details
The Holmesfield Howler is a 6-mile self-guided trail race held on 26 October 2025. The event is based at Holmesfield Village Hall, Vicarage Close, Holmesfield, Dronfield, Derbyshire S18 7WZ. It is organised by Peaks and Dales Guiding. Entries are open from 8 June 2025 and close on 25 October 2025. Entry fees are £5 for UKA-affiliated runners and £7 for unaffiliated runners. The minimum age to take part is 18. No dogs are permitted. Refunds are only given if the race is cancelled.
Course and rules
The route runs around the head of the Cordwell Valley on paths, bridleways, woodland and farmland on the edge of the Peak District National Park. The race is self-guided; participants receive written instructions on the day. There are no GPX files and no marshals on the route, so participants are responsible for their own safety. The event is held under UK Athletics rules. The race starts and finishes at Holmesfield Village Hall and runners may choose their own start time. Participants are required to carry a waterproof jacket, warm layers, plenty of water and a working mobile phone with the organiser’s contact saved. Timing is recorded at the start and at the finish.
