The Hawkeye 200
The Hawkeye 200 is a semi self supported, mostly non repetitive 200 mile point to point race in Iowa. The route begins in Marshalltown and finishes in Jefferson and includes two out and back sections. The course is made up mostly of paved trails that are inaccessible to motor vehicles.
The route uses a mix of trail systems and surfaces, including paved trails, crushed limestone, dirt, and grass. Trail names on the route include the Linn Creek Rec Trail, Iowa HWY 330 Trail, Heart of Iowa Nature Trail, High Trestle Trail, 9-Mile Connector Trail, and the Raccoon River Valley Trail. Where trails are not connected, runners will encounter short dirt road diversions totaling about 10 miles; these are the only portions where vehicle traffic may be present outside of standard road crossings and in-town travel.
Event support includes live GPS tracking by Legends Tracking USA and a generous 100 hour cutoff for the mostly flat course. There are seven fully stocked aid stations, with all but the first planned as indoor sleep stations. Runners may sleep in crew vehicles at crew accessible aid stations and are expected to use services available in towns along the route. The race is described as bridging traditional and self supported formats and is one of two races required for the Midwest Rail Trail Double.
The event has a no refund and no bib transfer policy. Entry deferral credit is available on a sliding scale depending on how far in advance the runner withdraws, with no deferrals within two weeks of race day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
