RUCKUS H.E.R.O. 4 FREEDOM
RUCKUS H.E.R.O. 4 FREEDOM is an inaugural community event in Marshalltown, IA that combines a ruck walk and a 5K run/walk with in-person and virtual participation options. The in-person program includes a H.E.R.O. 5K ruck walk and a FREEDOM 5K run/walk; virtual versions of both events are also offered.
Participants in the ruck walk provide their own weighted backpack; suggested weights are 11 lbs for females and 22 lbs for males. The event encourages using canned goods for ruck weight so the food items can be donated to a local food pantry. Scales will be available at the start area to confirm ruck weight.
All participants receive a custom event medal and a custom dri-fit tech t-shirt. Awards are presented to the top three finishers in each event. Pre- and post-race hydration will be provided. The event is managed by an event management organization and lists a registration fee of $35 for 5K entries.
The official charities are the Fort Des Moines African American Military Officer Museum, with funds directed to mental health therapy for soldiers and their families, and Outdoor Experience For All, which provides outdoor activities for veterans. The event takes place rain or shine; there are no refunds or transfers for weather. Strollers and wheelchairs are not recommended, pets are not allowed on course, and motorized vehicles, bicycles, and wagons are not permitted on the ruck course.
