Event Overview
The RuckUs 4 FREEDOM is an inaugural event taking place on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at IVH in Marshalltown, Iowa. It features both in-person and virtual activity options. The event is described as an honorary ruck where the community gathers with active-duty military, veterans, and first responders.
Activities and Format
Participants can choose from several events, all centered around a 5K distance.
- H.E.R.O. 5K Ruck: A walking event where participants have the option to carry a weighted backpack, following a military tradition.
- FREEDOM 5K Run/Walk: A standard 5K for running or walking without a weighted pack.
- Virtual versions of both the H.E.R.O. 5K Ruck and FREEDOM 5K Run/Walk are also available.
For the ruck event, participants must provide their own weighted backpack. The recommended weight is 11 lbs for females and 22 lbs for males, and scales will be available at the start. The weight should come from canned goods that can be donated to a food pantry after the race.
Participant Information
All participants receive a custom event medal and a custom dri-fit tech t-shirt. Awards are given to the top three finishers in all events. Pre- and post-race hydration, such as water and Gatorade, is provided.
Race day registration is available. The event takes place rain or shine, with no refunds or transfers due to weather. Due to the nature of the course, strollers and wheelchairs are not recommended. Pets, motorized vehicles, bicycles, and wagons are not allowed on the ruck course. There is no bag check.
Charitable Cause
The official charity is the Fort Des Moines African American Military Officer Museum. Funds raised are intended to benefit the mental health of soldiers and their families through therapy. The event also contributes to the Outdoor Experience For All foundation, which provides outdoor adventures for veterans. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
