The MTC Hafren Ultra
The MTC Hafren Ultra is Day 1 of the Severn Challenge, a 27‑mile point‑to‑point ultra from Rhyd-y-benwych picnic area near Llanidloes to the Mid Wales Arts Centre in Caersws. The route begins with a demanding four‑mile mountain trek up Plynlimon to the Severn source, famed for boggy terrain, then follows Britain’s longest river path toward finish. Elevation climbs total about 872 m with descent (1,069 m) and a notable 1,600 ft drop after the source.
Navigation is GPX‑oriented as much of the route is unmarked. Two check-points offer vegan or gluten‑free food; finishers receive a bespoke medal and head visor; cup-free policy applies. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
Always double-check with the organizer's website – things can change, and we might have sprinted past a few details!
