Event details

The MTC Hafren Ultra takes place on 8 July 2026 and is Day 1 of the Severn Challenge, organised by Ultra Running Ltd. The event is a point-to-point ultra running race of 27 miles with 872 m of ascent and 1,069 m of descent. This is the 10th edition. Entry is available as a Standard Solo entry at £80; all payments are non refundable. Deferral to the following year is available for an additional £15 if requested within four weeks of the event date. All entrants must be aged 18 or over and are responsible for their own travel to the start and from the finish.

Course and logistics

The route begins at Rhyd-y-benwch picnic area and includes a near four mile mountain trek up Plynlimon to the source of the Severn, then follows the Severn path toward the finish at Mid Wales Arts Centre, Maesmawr, Caersws. There are two check-points on the course. Check-point food options include Vegan and Gluten Free choices; competitors may supply labelled personal food bags for check-points if needed. Events are cup-free so participants should provide a reusable cup. Organisers strongly recommend using the provided GPX files and maps for navigation. A minimum average speed of 4.0 miles per hour is required; competitors who fall below this will be withdrawn. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, Ordnance Survey Map 150 (or downloadable maps), compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, and a basic first aid kit.
