The MTC Hafren Ultra

The MTC Hafren Ultra is a point to point ultra marathon forming Day 1 of the MTC Severn Challenge. The course distance is 27 miles with a total ascent of 872 metres and total descent of 1,069 metres. The route begins at Rhyd-y-benwch picnic area, climbs nearly four miles up Plynlimon and then follows the upper Severn back toward the finish at Mid Wales Arts Centre, Maesmawr, Caersws.

The event uses two checkpoint stations. Checkpoint food is available with an option for Vegan or Gluten Free selections; competitors who require other special foods must supply labelled bags for each checkpoint. The event is cup free and requires competitors to carry a reusable cup.

Navigation can be unpredictable where the Severn Path is overgrown, so use of GPX files is recommended. Competitors must meet a minimum average pace of 4.0 miles per hour; failing to maintain this pace may result in removal from the race. Entrants must be at least 20 years old on the race day.

Mandatory kit includes a backpack, Ordnance Survey Map 150 or equivalent, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone and a basic first aid kit. Entry is a standard solo fee of £80 and payments are non refundable; a deferred entry option is available for a fee up to four weeks before the event.
