The Great Race Triathlon
The Great Race is a canoe triathlon and duathlon held in Saint Albans Bay, Vermont, on July 4, 2026. The event takes place at 596 Lake Road and includes individual and team categories, including kayak and canoe team options and a kids run around St. Albans Bay Park.
Distances include:
- 12-mile bike
- 3-mile run
- 3-mile paddle
- 1-mile kids run
Equipment and rules are specified for each discipline. Runners must wear their bib on the front. Cyclists must wear helmets and place their bib on the right side. Paddlers are required to wear life jackets and to wear a bib on the life jacket when running over the finish line. The U.S. Coast Guard requires all paddlers to stay with their boats at all times. Kayak categories are for single kayaks only. Mixed age teams use the average age of the category, excluding the youth category.
Registration opens January 30 and closes on the day of the event. The registration fee is $35.00 per person. Race packets are available for pickup in advance at the Town Clerk's Office, 398 Georgia Shore Road, St. Albans Town, on multiple days in early July; participants traveling a long distance may pick up packets on race day at the race location.
