The Great Race Triathlon
The Great Race is a canoe triathlon and duathlon held in Saint Albans Bay, Vermont. The event combines cycling, running and paddling and is described as a tradition 46 years in the making. Lunch is included for participants.
Distances for the canoe triathlon are:
- 12-mile bike
- 3-mile run
- 3-mile paddle
Event categories include individual triathlon and duathlon entries, team canoe and kayak options for two to four persons, two-person team duathlon entries, and a one-mile kids run. Most adult categories list a registration fee of $35.00; the kids run is free.
Equipment and uniform requirements are specified: runners must display their bib on the front, cyclists must wear helmets and position the bib on the cyclist's right side, and paddlers must wear life jackets with a bib attached to the life jacket at the finish. The U.S. Coast Guard requirement that paddlers remain with their boats at all times is noted.
Race packets are available for advance pickup at the Town Clerk's Office, 398 Georgia Shore Road, St. Albans Town, Vermont, on early July dates.
