The First Hour

The First Hour is the opening event of the Friday Night Happy Hour series, held at the Goodrich-Loomis Conservation Area in Castleton, Ontario. Designed as an informal community trail run, the event takes place in a natural setting on a Friday evening.

The race features a specific distance:

  • 8 km

Participants navigate a course that includes various trail elements such as hills, rocks, roots, and mossy log bridges. Due to the nature of the terrain, some sections of the path may be slippery.

This is a cupless event, meaning runners are responsible for bringing their own water bottles. While no aid stations are positioned along the course, water is available at the start and finish line. Facilities at the site include a portable toilet located near the parking area.

Timing for the race is recorded manually, with results shared within 24 hours. There are no individual placement awards or finishing medals for this single event. However, participants who complete all three races in the Happy Hour series are eligible for a custom Dirty Soles medal and a prize at the final event of the series. Participant bibs are available for collection at the venue one hour before the race begins. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
