The Farthest
The Farthest is an event presented by Persistence Racing Run Club in London, Ontario, Canada. All runners start from a common location that will be disclosed two weeks before the event. From that start, each runner chooses their own route with the goal of getting as far away as possible from the start measured as the crow flies.
Three time limits are offered:
- The Farthest: 8 hours
- Half-Farthest: 4 hours
- Quarter-Farthest: 2 hours
The winner in each format is the runner whose final position is farthest from the start in straight-line distance at the time limit. A runner may cover the greatest distance on foot yet not be the farthest as the crow flies, so route choice and strategy matter.
Key rules and logistics include: prioritizing safety and obeying traffic laws, no travel on major highways, a mandatory pre-race meeting, live tracking via Google Maps, texting current location to the race director every two hours, submission of the last known intersection for distance verification, required emergency pick-up contact, no transportation provided by organizers, allowance for support crews and pacers with restrictions, and responsibility for personal hydration and nutrition. Minimum age is 18 and the field is capped at 30 runners. A portion of proceeds will go to the Children's Health Foundation.
